For Canadian Educational Institutions & Universities

In 2018, the Canadian government launched the Student Direct Stream program that allows international post-secondary students from select countries to fast-track the processing of their Canadian study permit.

With 642,480 international students in Canada in 2019, Canada has become the world’s fastest-growing destination for international students. With Indian students accounting for more than a third of all Canadian study permits issued in 2019, India has become the top sending market surpassing China.

In 2019, Roughly 46% of Indian international students came to study in Canada through the regular study permit stream, also called non-SDS.  The interest in this pathway was even more noticeable with the other Student Direct Stream countries – China, Morocco Pakistan, Philippines, Senegal, and Vietnam, where the non-SDS route was a much more popular choice with international students who in 2019 sought to go study in Canada.
