PTE Help Center: Scoring

Delayed scores

Five working days or fewer since your test

We kindly ask that you wait patiently. You will receive an email from PTE when your score is ready. Test results usually are available within two days, but can take up to five working days.

Over five working days since your test

We recommend checking your junk or spam email folders for our email, or logging into your myPTE account to check if your results are available.

There are a number of reasons, including:

Certainty

Our system sometimes flags results for additional review, which can take extra time. Because PTE tests are used to make important decisions, it is important that we get your score right every time.

Security

Before releasing a score, we need to ensure the person that took the test is who they say. Our biometric security systems may have identified a security issue and that triggered an investigation.

If you are notified that your score report was available, but you cannot see it, or it says, “Technical problems are preventing us from displaying candidate photographs at this time”, please try running your report again later. Your score will be available in the next 24 hours.

If it is still not available after 24 hours, please contact us via our Customer Support form. (The form is the fastest way to resolve the issue as it requires a designated team; our phone and live chat options will delay the enquiry reaching the right team.)

Accessing your scores

To view your test Score Report or result, first sign in to your myPTE account.

  • Once you are signed in, click on the “view Score” button on your homepage.

  • If there is no “View Score” button visible on the homepage, go to “My Activity”, find the relevant test and select the “View Score” button alongside it.

  • If you wish, you may download your report in PDF format to save or print.

  • Your Score Report is valid for two years from the date you took your test. After this, you will not be able to access your result. Scores should be assigned within two years of taking your test.

Sending your scores

There are two ways to share your scores with your chosen institution(s). You can share your scores using our online portal, or you can share your Score Report Code.

Your chosen institutions can search for your scores on our score review website using your Score Report Code (the 10 digit/letter combination at the top of the report below your name) or your Registration ID. All you need to do is provide your Score Report Code to your chosen institution.

You can share your score with an institution, using our secure online myPTE portal; institutions do not accept paper or PDF versions of PTE Academic score reports. You can send your scores to an unlimited number of institutions free of charge.

How do I send my score?

  • Sign in to your myPTE account

  • Go to “My Activity”

  • Click “Send Scores” next to the relevant test.

  • Type the name of your chosen institution in the field marked ‘Institution / Organization / Department / School’ and click ‘Search’.

  • Tick the box next to the institution’s name when it appears in the list. You can send to up to seven institutions at once.

  • Review your details then scroll down the page and click ‘Next’ and then ‘Next’ again to confirm.

  • You will receive a confirmation email when your scores have been sent.

When will institutions be able to see my score?

Only once you have sent the scores to your chosen institutions via your myPTE account. Once you have sent your Score Report, it will take around 48 hours for the institution to be able to see it. Institutions will only be able to see the score you share; they can’t see if your scores are better or worse than any previous attempts.

Can I send my previous scores to institutions?

Yes. Just choose the score you want to send once you have signed in to your myPTE account. Scores remain available for two years. If you have not assigned your scores within two years, you will not be able to assign them as they expire after two years from the test date.

Why have you sent me a message saying my chosen institution does not recognize the test?

The institution you selected does not yet recognize PTE formally. You will not be able to send your score to this institution until it accepts PTE.

You can simply enter the IRCC Unique Reference Number (URN) from your Score Report onto your visa application form so the Canadian Government can verify your results.

If you ticked either of the boxes asking for scores to be allocated to the DHA (Australia) or INZ (New Zealand) when you booked your test, your scores will be automatically sent to them.

If you chose to assign your scores when booking and did not get the desired score in your test, DHA or INZ will not be able to review your scores unless you have already submitted your application. When logging your application simply include the Test Registration ID of the result you wish them to review.

If you have taken the UKVI test, your score report will contain a SELT Unique Reference Number (URN). This should be entered on your visa application form so that the UK Government can securely access your results.

Your test performance

Mastering the English language and achieving a high score on your PTE test is a challenging task for many test takers. We appreciate test takers feel frustrated when they don’t achieve the score they need or hoped to achieve.

Each time you take the test you may get a different score. The differences in the Overall Score and Communicative Skills scores should be quite small and you may see some variation in your Skills Profile performance indicators (or performance bars).

Your Skills Profile helps you understand how you performed in some of the PTE task types during your test and provides you with guidance and recommendations for future learning or study. Your Skills Profile is only visible to you and not shared with any institutions that receive your scores.

No. Our scoring engine is trained to recognize speech from over 90 different language groups. One of the benefits of the test being computer-scored is that it significantly reduces bias against any particular accent. All test takers are treated the same.

So, the score you get represents a true measure of your ability on the day of the test.

We do not share any content that is currently used in PTE tests outside of a test session, nor can we share samples of responses to those questions. This is in order to maintain the security and integrity of our tests.

Retaking your test

If you didn't get the score you need, you can book to take another test once you have received the scores from your last test. You can retake the test at the next convenient date for you. This can be within the same month.

No, however you can only take it a maximum of 12 times within a 12 month period. This means that, if, for example, you took the test 12 times within a 6 month period, you would need to wait another 6 months before being able to book the test again.

If you need to take the test more than 12 times during this period, then you can request an exception. Please refer to our retake policy for details.

Request a rescore or a score review

If you wish to challenge your score, you may request a machine rescore. If you believe that your reported speaking score was affected by a technical issue, you may request a technical review.

Please refer to Requesting a rescore or technical review for important information about the process.

Appeals

Before making an appeal you must have undergone a rescore, technical review or received a malpractice decision (e.g. your score has been revoked and/or your account has been banned).

Refer to our appeals policy for information.

Important: Please note that the appeals process focuses on reviewing whether our procedures were correctly followed. The process does not involve any re-assessment of your test.
