UK regulation status of PTE tests

This page describes the UK regulation status of our PTE tests. The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OFQUAL) regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.

PTE Academic

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI) is accredited by OFQUAL (the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) in England as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) International qualifications.

ESOL International qualifications are primarily designed for candidates who are not fluent speakers of English and who wish to achieve a high quality, internationally recognised qualification in English that is available and recognised worldwide and at the highest level (RQF level 3 / CEFR C2).

They are suitable for candidates who are preparing for entry to higher education or professional employment. ESOL International qualifications are designed to reference the descriptions of language proficiency in the Common European Framework Reference for Languages (CEFR). The levels in the CEFR have been mapped to the levels in the Regulatory Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England.

PTE Academic is listed by OFQUAL on the Register of Regulated Qualifications with the following ESOL International qualification titles recorded at the following CEFR levels.
