PTE ID Policy

You must provide an acceptable identification document to take a PTE test. This will usually be your passport.

If you do not have a passport, you may be able to use an alternative depending on your chosen PTE test. Choose a test type below for more information.

SELT: PTE Academic UKVI and PTE Home

To meet the requirements of the UK government, you must bring one of the following documents to take PTE Academic UKVI or PTE Home:

  • Passport
  • Government ID card:
    • EU ID card (only accepted in the issuing country)
    • National ID card (only accepted in the issuing country)
    • Biometric Residence Card (BRC)
    • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
  • Valid travel document (excluding Emergency Travel Documents)

Your document must be valid and have a photograph.

PTE Home

To take PTE Home, you must bring one of the following documents:

  • Passport
  • National ID (this must include a photograph and is only accepted in the issuing country). Examples include:
    • British Residents Permit (BRP)
    • British Residents Card (BRC)
    • EEU ID Card or Government ID card
    • Valid travel document (excluding Emergency Travel Documents)

Rules for all identification documents

  • The same ID details shared when booking the test must be presented by the test taker on the day of the test.
  • The name on the ID should exactly match the name used when booking the test.
  • If you fail to produce the required ID you will not be allowed into the test room and will lose your test fee.
  • Copies will not be accepted. The original document must be provided. No other ID will be accepted at the test center.

Refugee or Stateless applicants

If you are taking the test as a Refugee or Stateless person, please submit the following online form and our Customer Support Team will get back to you in 3-5 working days. You must do this before scheduling your test. You will be contacted if any additional information is required.
