Scores and Score Reports

Research supports that, in many ways, automated scoring gives more analytical, objective results than humans do. Unlike human judgment, which is prone to be influenced by a variety of factors, an automated scoring system is impartial. This means that the system is not 'distracted' by language-irrelevant factors such as test takers’ appearance, personality, or body language (as can happen in spoken interview tests). Such impartiality means that you can be confident that you are being judged solely on your language performance, and institutions receiving scores can be confident that those scores are 'generalizable'—that the test taker would have earned the same score if the test had been administered in Beijing, Brussels, or Bermuda.
For more information on automated scoring, please refer to our white paper—PTE Academic and Automated Scoring.
For information on what your scores mean, please refer to the Interpreting PTE Academic Scores document in this website.

If you are unhappy with your test score, you can request a rescore. Please refer to page 13 of the Test Taker Handbook for full details of how to proceed.

If you believe there was an error in any part of the test that may have affected your score you should complete and return the Item Challenge Form.

Should there be any irregularities related to the administration of your test, Pearson will place your result on hold whilst an investigation is carried out. Failure to adhere to the terms listed in the PTE Academic Test Taker Rules Agreement available on page 18 of the Test Taker Handbook will result in your result being placed on hold, and under some circumstances it could be cancelled.
You will receive your score typically within five business days of your test date—so, if you take the test on a Tuesday, your scores should be available by the following Tuesday. Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding UK and USA national holidays. You will be notified by email to the address you gave when you registered when your scores are available to be viewed online. Pearson reserves the right to delay your test score if we detect any irregularities during the testing process which require further investigation. If this is the case, we will inform you as soon as possible.
You will receive an email informing you that your scores are available, so you should check your junk or spam email folders to make sure that you have not missed the notification. You will be contacted by email if your score is delayed or on hold and will not be available within five days. If you have not received any notification from us, you should contact Pearson Customer Service in your region.
Pearson do not provide printed copies of score reports to test takers.
Sign in to your account. Once you have logged in successfully, the Current Activity page displays a list of the tests you have taken in the past. Click 'View Score Report' next to the test appointment for which you wish to view scores, and your score report will open in a new window.

Scores for PTE Academic are reported as a profile of your level of ability in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing, and in six Enabling Skills. When you sign into your user account and click ‘View Score Report’ a new window will open that contains your score report.

The score report has a number of different sections:
• The first section contains your personal details and photograph.
• In the middle of the report your Overall Score is shown.
• The final section of the score report shows more detail on how you performed on the test.

The individual scores for Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing are shown, along with the scores for the six Enabling Skills. You may find this useful to understand your strengths and weaknesses, and to provide focus on the areas where you performed less well and could focus your future study.

Institutions will use the results of PTE Academic to determine the actual English language skills of applicants when making admission decisions.

If you receive this message while sending your scores, it means that the institution you have selected does not yet formally recognize PTE Academic. Please note that until the institution does formally recognize PTE Academic, you will not be able to use your PTE Academic score as part of your application.

Each score report in your account is valid and is kept online for two years.
Once you complete the registration process, your profile data will remain on the system. You can access your PTE Academic online account any time from this point with the unique Username and Password you created online.
